The great expanse of Ukraine’s literary heritage is a window into its history, identity, and its people’s views of themselves and the world. It is not widely available in English translation. That is why our expert judges draw out a theme, and review submissions that illuminate a facet of Ukrainian society. In 2024, our most recent prize welcomed translations of modern Ukrainian works that have been published in the period of Ukraine’s independence since 1991.
