The UIL Winter Fundraising Night: Ukrainian Modernism

This year’s Winter Fundraising Night will celebrate Ukrainian modernism in all its richness and diversity, from avant-garde theatre design to the bold artistic visions that shaped a generation.

Join us for a festive evening in the elegant Art Deco surroundings of The Garden Cinema, a hidden gem in the heart of Covent Garden. We have hosted many unforgettable film screenings there, and now return for our special winter celebration.

An evening of art and inspiration

Drawing Workshop
Explore the creative energy of Ukrainian avant-garde. In this guided workshop, guests will draw from life, inspired by the scenographic designs of Oleksandra Ekster, Anatol Petrytsky, Vadym Meller, Oleksandr Khvostenko-Khvostov, and others, creating their own futuristic compositions and discovering more about this remarkable era in Ukrainian art.

Ukrainian Modernism Quiz
Curated by Katia Denysova, co-curator of the exhibition In the Eye of the Storm: Modernism in Ukraine held at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2024, this short and lively quiz will surprise, entertain, and challenge what you thought you knew about Ukrainian modernism.

Live Jazz & Christmas Music
Enjoy a live jazz fusion performance by Ukrainian soprano Yulia Shpyg, whose programme combines Ukrainian melodies with jazz and classical music. 

Let's share  an atmosphere of warmth and creativity, with fine wine, light bites, and inspiring company. Together, we’ll celebrate the enduring brilliance of Ukrainian culture and the UIL community that keeps it alive in London and beyond.

As an independent charity, the UIL relies on events like this to keep our programme vibrant and impactful, especially at a time when amplifying Ukraine’s voice and supporting those who continue to fight for our independence is more important than ever.
