Cambridge Ukrainian Studies, a programme of the Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Cambridge, and the Ukrainian Institute London, an affiliate of the Ukrainian Catholic University, today announced the launch of a new joint project: a series of lectures by scholars of Ukrainian Studies to be held regularly at the Ukrainian Institute London.
A number of excellent young scholars from Cambridge University’s department of Slavonic Studies researching Ukraine, as well as renowned and highly respected guest speakers that come to Cambridge from Ukraine, Europe and North America, will hold lectures at the Ukrainian Institute London.
The lecture series will commence in the autumn of 2012 with a list of planned lectures to be announced shortly. Speakers will be given choice of presenting in Ukrainian or English.

Leading scholars who are scheduled to present at Cambridge in 2012-2013 will be very happy to hold a talk at the Ukrainian Institute London to a wider audience. PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers from Cambridge and SSEES will form the basis for the list of speakers for 2012-2013,” commented Olesya Khromeychuk, Lector in Ukrainian at the University of Cambridge.

Cambridge Ukrainian Studies, a programme of the Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Cambridge, aims to promote and contribute to the study of Ukraine in the United Kingdom and beyond. It is committed to deepening public understanding of Ukraine and to advancing fresh, innovative approaches to research on the largest country within Europe, a critical crossroads between ‘East’ and ‘West’ with a rich historical, linguistic, and cultural inheritance. While its primary focus is on the literature and culture of Ukraine, Cambridge Ukrainian Studies seeks to explore – and challenge – conventional notions of disciplinary and geographical borders and to foster a lively exchange between artists, scholars, politicians, and the wider public, as well as between institutions of higher learning in Ukraine, Europe, and North America. Cambridge Ukrainian Studies was made a permanent programme in 2010.
The Ukrainian Institute London develops and promotes a greater awareness, understanding, and knowledge of Ukrainian history, language, religion, current affairs, economy, literature, and culture through educational, professional and networking activities. Located in Holland Park, the Institute is maintained and supported by the Society of St Sophia, a UK registered charity.
