The trustees of the Ukrainian Institute London have decided to hold an open competition every few years for the position of Director, to ensure the Institute can benefit from fresh ideas and the wealth of talent in London. They see this as part of developing the organisation. The present Director is eligible to apply. They now invite applications from other candidates.
The Institute was established as the London affiliate of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in 1979 by Patriarch Josyf Slipyj, head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. In 2016 it was registered as a charity in England and Wales, with the objective of educating and informing the public in the UK about Ukraine and Ukrainians.
The Ukrainian Catholic University is an open academic community living the Eastern Christian tradition and forming leaders to serve with professional excellence in Ukraine and internationally – for the glory of God, the common good, and the dignity of the human person. Based in Lviv, Ukraine, the Ukrainian Catholic University is an innovative private higher education institution that is at the forefront of forming a new generation for the new Ukraine.
The successful candidate will be fluent in Ukrainian and English, have higher education, and live in or near London. They must understand and broadly share the mission of the Ukrainian Catholic University, and have a solid and clear motivation for developing the Institute and taking it forward.
It will be desirable for the Director to have experience of:
– leading and managing people
– planning, budgeting, and financial management
– modern IT and social media
– fundraising and networking
– organising events and projects
– working in a charity
– the education and cultural sectors
The Director must be prepared to travel occasionally to Ukraine (and elsewhere).
The Director of the Ukrainian Institute London, a leading hub of the Ukrainian community in the UK, will have a unique opportunity to shape and develop Ukrainian cultural, educational, and other activities in the UK, to grow the partnership with UCU and other stakeholders in Ukraine and the UK, and to utilise and further develop his or her network among political, cultural, religious, academic and business circles in Ukraine, the UK and beyond.
The Director is not employed, but is paid a fee of £25,000 per year for delivering agreed services. There are no set hours, but the work can be intensive and includes evening events. It could not be combined with other full time employment.
