This seminar investigates how books, magazines, typography, and graphic design became powerful tools for cultural experimentation in Ukraine during the turbulent years of revolution and state-building in the early twentieth century. At a moment when political institutions and cultural identities were being reimagined, artists, writers, and designers turned to the printed page to ask a fundamental question: what should a modern Ukrainian culture look like? Focusing on the emergence of a vibrant print culture in Kyiv and beyond, the seminar examines how print, illustration, and design became instruments of artistic innovation and cultural expression.
