An innovative theatre director, Les Kurbas staged experimental productions in Kyiv and Kharkiv during the 1920s, transforming our idea of what theatre can be. The seminar explores his work in these two cities, focusing on shows that examined fundamental issues in world theatre and innovated with its formal qualities. We will also place Kurbas in dialogue with his principal collaborators, the writer Mykola Kulish and the artist Vadym Meller.
