A few kilometres from the front line stands the thermal power plant in Kurakhove — the last operational power station in the free part of the Donetsk region. At a moment when Russia is trying to deprive the country of light and heat, the workers of the plant risk their lives every day, because every time the station is brought back on line it becomes a target. The film follows their daily struggle for light and heat, shows the workings of this industrial giant of the Donetsk region, and pays tribute to the people who kept it running. Archival footage from the 1930s, when the plant was built, is set against the present. Evacuation, in the end, proves unavoidable.
