The fifth seminar within the Literatura course will be led by Mariia Shuvalova, a literary critic and lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Why not partake in the spirit of the 4th of July by reading and discussing writing about Ukraine’s ongoing battle for its independence?
‘For most of the world, Russia’s war against Ukraine started when the entire country woke up from explosions and air raid sirens on 24 February 2022. By that point, Ukrainians had been living this barbaric invasion for eight years and producing literature which reflected their complex experiences, both life-changing on an individual scale, and signalling a point of no return for their country and the world at large.’
We will be reading chapters from Tamara Duda's novel Daughter to tune in to the context of the past ten-year-long st
age of Russia's war against Ukraine and paying special attention to how Ukrainian women have been affected by this war, and how this war has affected them.
